Loom Band Bracelet and Ring

I have made loom band jewellery before but started making some more recently. I started going to a new craft class which is mainly for adults but children can come along. My friend also comes along with his mum and we take our loom bands with us and make things at the group.

Below is a photograph of me and my friend with our loom bands.

Ramadan Wreath Tutorial

I decided this year to make a Ramadan Wreath. We haven't made one of those for Ramadan before so it was nice to do something different.

Requirements:

  • Craft Ring (purchased form craft store)
  • Fabric scraps (cut into rectangles)
  • Cardboard sheet (we used a cereal box)
  • Printout or handwritten Ramadan Mubarak Sign

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut out a tester strip of fabric and tie around in a loose knot, making sure the size is adequate. Then use the correct size needed as a template and cut out many more strips. You can use different fabrics if you wish. (We used a patterned piece of fabric from an old duvet cover)

Step 2: Tie all the pieces of fabric around the ring, spreading around evenly as possible.

Step 3: Cut out a piece of cardboard the same size as the craft ring.

Step 4: Print out the words Ramadan Mubarak or hand write them onto some paper. Then place onto the cardboard.  Puncture 4 holes into the cardboard. Then using scrap fabric attach to the fabric ring. Also use some scrap fabric to make a loop at the top to hang it up.

Once done you can hang this up for decoration. I think it would look batter with a bolder brighter text than I have used. If I do this again I would spend more time making the words Ramadan Mubarak look better.

Ramadan Calendar Tutorial

I have been busy making a new Ramadan Calendar for this year. I decided to make one that I could re-use again in future years. In the past I made ones that can only be used once.  This one involved me using the sewing machine.

Items needed

  • Background fabric
  • Fabric for pockets (Felt is good)
  • Numbers (I used sticky numbers)
  • Wooden Dowels (to keep straight)
  • String (to hang up the calendar)
  • Sewing machine and thread
  • Scissors

Instructions

Step 1) Prepare the background sheet for the calendar by sewing hems on all sides. Sew a gap at the top and bottom so that a wooden dowel will go through to keep the calendar sturdy.

Step 2) Cut out 30 squares of fabric for each day of Ramadan. Cut out the letters 'RAMADAN' Attach with pins to the background sheet, spacing accordingly.

Step 3) Using the sewing machine attach all the letters and attach the pockets, leaving top part of square open to place in a note or sweet etc.

Step 4) Attach the stick numbers if using.

Step 5) Thread some string through the gap where the top dowel goes. Then put in the 2 wooden dowels.

Step 6) Place in some little Ramadan notes or sweets into the pockets. It is now ready to use.

Below is an idea of what you could put into the pockets!
